v2830 Bandwidth Management not clear? was created by hongman
Hi all

I have a v2830 running fw 3.3.4_232201

Infrastructure is very straight forward, no additional routers or firewalls in place. Just ADSL into the 2830, and a single lan poret out to a switch to which the devices are connected.

I want to limit the TOTAL bandwidth TCP & UDP to not ever exceed xxx kbps.

So in Bandwidth Management > Bandwidth Limit I have set:

Enable
Default TX Limit xxx kbps
Default RX Limit xxx kbps

Start IP 192.168.1.20
End IP 192.168.1.254
SHARED = Yes
TX/RX = xxx kbps

I understand there is a difference between limiting per IP, rather than the whole range as a total. It is the latter I want, and according to how I have set this, I believe logically this is correct.

However, upon going to Diagnostics > Data Flow Monitor I see a list of IP#s (within my specified range) with TX and RX details along with the cap in brackets. The Peak speed is way above the cap I set which leads to me think this is not working as it should be (and maybe limiting per IP instead).

I am due to visit soon to manually test but looking for any pointers in the meantime.

That's a bad firmware, update it.

Also turn the firewall - General Setup - Data Filter on, disabling it breaks all sorts of things with QoS and bandwidth management
