2820n 3G Performance was created by mfuller
Hi Everyone,

I hope you can help. I live in a rural location so broadband for us is less that 400Kbs down. My boss has kindly got me a 3G dongle (the Huawei E3131) and a directional antenna. I have a draytek 2820n running 3.3.7.3_232201.

I have setup the 3G dongle on WAN2 and have my laptop load balanced to permanently use it (all other traffic going via land line broadband.

The external antenna is reporting full signal when plugged into the laptop, and speedtest shows 8Mb down and 2Mb up. Great throughput.

When I connect the dongle to the Draytek however, things go really bad. Signal is showing at 29% all the time (regardless if the external antenna is connect or not) and throughput is showing as 300Kbs down, 110Kbs up. I have confirmed it's definitely using the dongle by disconnecting the ADSL.

Any ideas? any help appreciated.

Is that model of dongle definitely compatible with the DrayTek 2820n? I notice that it's not on the "Modem Support List" on my 2860Vn.

the Huawei E3131 it is in the list of my 2760 but because the 2820 is old they may not updated with all usb's possible

I have confirmed it's definitely using the dongle by disconnecting the ADSL.

check at wan>genral setup if is set as always is on or as failover (if you don't want to disconnect the adsl) & also at load balance policy if any settings

OK, think I have sussed it.

I had QoS setup from the previous WAN2 connection, and it was still set to 500Kbs down for primary devices. I've disabled QoS and now getting full 7Mb :D

Thanks all!
