Best IP address for testing internet connectivity

Best IP address for testing internet connectivity was created by Andrew
What IP addresses do people ping to verify connectivity when using failover mode? I was thinking about 8.8.8.8 or 8.8.4.4 but I wonder if Google have some restriction on he number of pings? Obviously I'd prefer an IP address to avoid having to do a DNS lookup.
