What is "AlertLog" vis-à-vis "Syslog"?

With other mumblings like:

• When would its use be appropriate?

• What are the triggers?

• What is/are the "usual" output target/s?

Have had a mooch at the manual and the internet but my Google Fu failed.

Just curious, really. I did think of ticking the box "just to see" but feared flames, smoke, running and screaming, etc.

SysLog is all normal system events plus alerts , AlertLog is just that, a log of the more serious events that may need your attention .
