Hello

We're looking into migrating our office to 4G Internet connectivity due to the fact we are in an area where no-one wants to provide FTTP.

We currently use a Vigor 2860 and I want to connect a TP-Link MR600 router to WAN2, that my collegue has kindly loaned us, to see if the 4G signal is fast & reliable enough for our Internet needs.
I have followed these instructions to configure the WAN2 port on the Vigor 2860: https://www.draytek.co.uk/support/guides/kb-ethernetwan

However, when we pull out the DSL cable on WAN1, WAN2 never gives us an Internet connection, is it possible the TP-Link device is not up to the job?
On the TP-Link I disabled DHCP and gave it a fixed IP not in use by any other device. There doesn't appear to be any other configuration options or modes to set.
I've tried connecting to both the WAN & LAN ports on the TPLink but neither work.

The TP-Link works absolutely fine on 4G when not connected to the Draytek, it's like it cannot pass through the Internet to the Draytek or I do not have the Draytek setup quite correctly.

Our plan is if the 4G is reliable enough we'll upgrade to a Vigor 2865L-5G router and bring ourselves up to date.

Equipment
Vigor 2860 F/W 3.9.7_BT
TP-Link Archer MR600 F/W 210608

Many thanks

Hi pow1983,

(Turn DHCP mode back on, on the TP-Link MR600, so any device connecting to it gets an IP address.)

Try disabling WAN1, rather than just pulling out the DSL cable.

If you’re trying to setup failover as well as testing if the 4G works at all, you might get caught out by too many factors.

Just enable WAN2 only, set it to ‘Ethernet’ mode (Ethernet mode might be the only option for your model), set the ‘Physical Type’ to ‘Auto negotiation’ and ‘Active Mode’ to ‘Always On’.

On the ‘Internet Access’ page choose ‘Static or Dynamic IP’ for the ‘Access Mode’ for WAN2 and then click on the ‘Details Page’ button.

In there, choose ‘Enable’ and ‘Obtain an IP address automatically’. For ‘WAN Connection Detection’ choose ‘Always on’.

Now, if your MR600 allows a laptop in ‘DHCP client’ mode to get online when connected to Port1, then the Vigor 2860 will also do the same when connected to Port1 of the MR600 from its WAN2 port.

I wonder if both the Draytek and TP-Link are using 192.168.1.xxx as their address range.

Doing this kind of thing, I've often found one device needs to be given a different range.

Thank you! This is exactly what was needed.
I was putting the TPLink as a device on the same range.

I now have a WAN2 LED (woohoo!) and I don't need to disable WAN1.

Cheers to both of you. We will give the 4G option a damn good thrashing and see how it turns out with an office full of equipment.
