Replacing Vigor2925n-plus for a 2925 was created by jeroenn
I have a Vigor2925n-plus. I want to exchange this model for a 2925 as I can use the WiFi router functionality at another place. So, I thought simply replacing it. I created a configuration backup from the 2925n-plus and restored on the 2925. All fine, according to the settings which I reviewed page by page...
But functional it doesn't work. It's actually the WAN address where it already basically fails. At the original router 2925n-plus I have an external IP address starting with 109.72.x.y. When I ask at https://www.whatsmyip.org this is also confirmed.
When I connect my 2925 router, I get a different WAN address. It's starting with 10.151.x.y. When I ask https://www.whatsmyip.org it gives another address, it says 62.4.55.x. Also the hostname is not this IP address, but the text "cable-cgn..mtel.me" which is the nickname (ddns name) of my provider.
I did the same procedure with completely reseting to factory settings on my 2925, but I got the same results. I thought maybe the configuration file is not interchangeable, but it's not the case.
I have a feeling it has to do with CG-NAT, where the provider is sharing external IP addresses. I'm not sure if they are sharing, but I've seen it somewhere else (in another country). Is anybody knowing what my problem could be? Putting back my 2925n-plus, all is fine again...

Take a note of the Mac address on your old router used on the wan settings, on the new one on the wan setup you can enter that Mac as the one to use, hopefully the cgnat server will then give you the old IP address.

Thank you so much. This helped me out. I didn't know the internet provider turns on CG-NAT based on/off my MAC address. How terrible is this!
But my Draytek has so many settings, so a workaround is very simple... it worked!
Only my VPN didn't work anymore (LT2P) after the first long, but after a while it was somehow updated and I could login (also setting manually my old password)

You can now save your settings on the new router and the MAC address with be restored if that file is used in future.
