Unable to log in to 286* routers featuring an underscore in the password. was created by Elliot Charge
Good afternoon all,
I appear to have fallen foul of a bug with the 286* series of Vigor routers whereby a handful have allowed me to set passwords containing an underscore, but now will no longer allow me to log in. I wasn't aware of the underscore issue until searching for a resolution and would have expected the devices to not allow me to set a password containing an underscore in the in the first place,if it's not an accepted character.
Either way, when I now try to log in to these routers, the page refreshes and presents me with an empty login screen again. No failure message of any kind.
Does anyone know of a resolution for this issue please, which doesn't involve having to go out on site to factory reset them?
Thanks in advance,
L3T

Hi
Elliot Charge
,
That's strange, I have a 2862 which I've just changed the password of, to now have an '_' in it, and it works fine.
You did say:
Can you SSH (or even Telnet) in, does the underscore password allow you in via that route?
I was hoping to recreate this error so I could tackle a way in, but I just can't get it to not work like you're experiencing.

So are there any other distinguishing factors which cause this issue to happen, like FW version or length of the password?whereby a handful have allowed me to set passwords containing an underscore,
