Draytek 2862 WAN2 failover not kicking in was created by Wes
Hi clever folks.
We've a VDSL router plugged into WAN2 for (in theory) when the internet goes down, the phones carry on.
The VDSL router is working - if you plug it directly into a laptop, the internet is fine etc.
However when we unplug WAN1, nothing seems to happen, and the phones/PCs show no internet. Is there a setting I'm missing?
Thanks in advance!

May be a stupid question, but the "VDSL router" plugged into WAN 2 of the 2862, is that in modem mode (all routing/NAT/Firewall functionality disabled) so that that the 2862 can do PPPoE authentication on WAN 2?

OK, I have been to site and factory reset the backup modem/router, which is a TP link W9970.
I then followed the instructions on their website to change the 9970 into bridge mode. However I still get this error on the draytek. I didn't unplug WAN1, but I assume WAN2 would need to be green beforehand?

It does rather sound as though you haven't configured the PPPoE settings for WAN 2 correctly.
When you do get it working, I found using the route policy settings for failover was more reliable than the WAN settings as here:-
https://www.draytek.co.uk/support/guides/kb-wan-backup#failover-through-route-policy
Just a thought

I assume you followed this: https://www.tp-link.com/uk/support/faq/1332/
Make sure you have the username and password right in the PPPoE settings on WAN 2 of the Draytek.
You may also want to try spoofing the MAC address of the TP Link's WAN connection on WAN 2 of the Draytek.
