Firmware older than 3.3.2 didn't have the problem, but for the being unable to connect until you log on to the router's web interface problem, I don't know about the cause of that one, maybe it could be caused by a slightly malfunctioning config file on the router?

Voodle,
as you say maybe, but we are talking at least 3 different 2820 routers plus the one at the client end. However will give it a try.
To the op's, sorry to have hijacked your thread, just seemed a rather similar problem. Have any of you managed to resolve the problem?
Regards

Hi Unwise1,
No problem, glad someone is in the same boat. I will check to see what the firmware revision is at and get back (may be a few days!)

Thanks Baconface, look forward to your results.
Have now tried a 2800 (2.8.2) and 2600 (2.5.6) and both work properly for at least 15 min with neither needing me to log on to the router web admin before they will allow me to connect. Suppose I should try other types of vpn before finally pointing the finger solely at the 2820's
Regards

Success!
Upgraded the firmware to 3.3.3 on the 2820 and this has resolved the issue of the VPN drop outs. One of the users has been connected for 6hrs without dropping out.
Here's the firmware revision im running:
Model Name : Vigor2820
Firmware Version : 3.3.3_232201
Build Date/Time : Oct 23 2009 15:23:15
ADSL Firmware Version : 232201_A Hardware: Annex A
The setup is: Router (2820) -> Switch -> SBS2003
Thanks for your advice guys
Simon

Hope it holds up!
Voodle suggested this earlier but it seems it should not apply to firmware earlier than 3.3.x.x, so Ihave been looking for a different solution as one of my routers is 3.2.0. May be that is a different problem?
Will update firmware as per Voodle suggestion and your success at my next opportunity and see what happens
