Start VPN connection during boot up was created by robhawkins
Hi there,

I've recently purchases a Draytek 2920Vn, and have got it set up with a remote worker.

We used the Draytek smart vpn client on the client machine to set up the VPN connection. The user can connect up and see everything, ping all of the boxes and DNS resolution is all working fine.

The connection type we are using is L2TP/IPSec.

What we want is to start this connection during boot up, so that when the machine has booted he can log directly into the domain.

We followed some instructions to do this on the internet using rasdial to start the connection, but no matter what we do starting the connection via rasdial gives us error 691 - Access was denied because the username and/or password was invalid on the domain.

Any help would be appreciated

The client is XP by the way.

I've just tried it on Vista and it works via rasdial with no problems.

Any idea if I need to do something else on XP?

Well, with some more investigation I've got to admit I am more confused!

We create the L2TP/IPSec connection with the Smart VPN Client. We can connect from there no problems.

If we right click on the "To Vigor" network connection and click the connect button, it does not work (error 691 as above), even if we re-enter the username and password here, it still doesn't connect.

This is why rasdial doesn't work for us.

This problem doesn't exist on Vista or Windows 7 - we can right click on the created connection and tell it to connect and it goes straight in.

Does anyone know why this doesn't work on XP?
