VPN using Draytek Smart VPN Client to a Vigor 2820 was created by jim@jbsoft.co.uk
Hi,
I've setup a VPN using the Draytek Smart VPN Client software to a Draytek Vigor 2820.

I'm connecting in fine but I need to print from the server I'm connected to, to a printer connected to the client. That's where I run into a problem.

My server has an IP address of 192.168.86.100, the Draytek Vigor 2820 is on that site with an IP addtess of 192.168.86.1.

My client has an IP address of 192.168.85.6, the router at this end is not a Draytek and it has an IP address of 192.168.85.254.

I can connect fine to my server (192.168.86.100) from there I can ping the router on the client side (192.168.85.254). I can't traceroute to 192.168.85.254 and I can't ping the client 192.168.85.6.

I believe that if I can ping the client I will be able to print to it's printer.

Can anyone help?

On the Vigor 2820 I have setup a LAN to LAN. It's enabled as a Dial-in. PPTP, IPSec Tunnel and L2TP with IPSec Policy (None) are all ticked.
The TCP?/IP Network settings are as follows:
My WAN IP : 192.168.86.0
Remote Gateway IP : 192.168.85.254
Remote Network IP : 192.168.85.0
Remote Network Mask : 255.255.255.0

I changed RIP Direction from Disable to TX/RX Both but it made no difference.

Any help would be appreciated.

Regards,
Jim.

Hi,

I've got it sorted.

It turns out the IP address I was able to ping from the server (192.168.85.254) wasn't the router after all! It was the address given to the client PC when the VPN comes up, the one I needed to ping in the first place.

When I thought about it the VPN is effectively a tunnel between the server side (192.168.86.xx) and the client, the router at the client end isn't visible the tunnel goes straight through it.

Thanks anyway maybe this will help someone else.

Regards,
Jim.
