No OpenVPN support on Vigor 2860? was created by mark
Hi Folks,
I've been using IPSec L2TP on my 2860 for many years now, and it works great with various devices as clients, but my recently acquired GL-iNet travel router only supports WireGuard and OpenVPN. I'd very much like to use the GL-iNet device as a way to extend my home network when I'm travelling but that requires the home router to support OpenVPN, and I just can't figure it out. My Vigor's details:
System StatusModel Name : Vigor2860LnFirmware Version : 3.9.8.2_BTBuild Date/Time : Sep 13 2024 19:37:52 Remote Access Control SetupEnable PPTP VPN Service Enable IPSec VPN ServiceEnable L2TP VPN ServiceEnable SSL VPN Service
This forum post seems to suggest that OpenVPN is no longer supported on Vigor, whereas this knowledge base article gives instructions for setting it up on a 2865. Anybody know what the definitive answer is for my 2860? I'm not sure if the absence of OpenVPN is by design, or as a consequence of my current configuration.
Cheers!

I think mostly because the 2860 is now 12+ years old....support for OpenVPN came in later models only.

Hi
mark
,
I agree with ianfretwell , that model is End-Of-Life now and DrayTek will no longer add feature improvements and/or maintenance for it. (See this page for full EOL list).
I have a 2862ac here, which although isn't end of life, yet, it is over 7 years old now and only just scraped through to receive OpenVPN, and even then it is only Host-to-LAN, and not OpenVPN LAN-to-LAN capable.
FWIW, the 2862 does work with a GL.iNet Slate AX, via OpenVPN, although the OpenVPN client config export file (.ovpn) doesn't export correctly (as of FW 3.9.9.8) and will require manual adjustment after export.

Many thanks for taking the time to reply @ianfretwell and @HodgesanDY, your responses clearly confirm that the router is too old for OpenVPN despite still receiving regular security updates - kudos to the manufacturer for that at least. I'll look at replacing it with something newer.
