Can I use my 2820s as a access point only? If so what settings do I need to change to do this.

I have this working expect for 1 problem.

I need the wireless clients to get an ip from a windows server but I can't, have tried switch off the 2820 dhcp server and that didn't work and also put the windows server's ip in for a dhcp relay.

I was thinking about running the dhcp server on the 2820 just for a few address but then I would have 2 dhcp server on my network so how would LAN pc's know which to use?

Having 2 DHCP's isnt too much of a hastle. Which ever one respons 1st will answer the request. Just have then in 2 seperate zones of the same Subnet.

Eg. 192.168.1.1 - 192.168.1.49
then 192.168.1.50 - 192.168.1.99

Gives 2 groups of 50 on the same subnet. No problems there.

Also try to manually assign an IP to a wifi client. Can they ping a wired one?? If not there is a conectivity issue between the Wifi AP and inbuilt switch. Check for VPN configs in there.

The static address works, that is what I have been doing. It just means laptop uses can't just come and use the wireless network.

Would wired client get a dhcp address from the ap do you think?

You would need to change the gateway address to match the other router though if you use the DHCP server on the 2820

I setup the dhcp server on the draytek but my sbs 2003 server did not like it. I have this server message and the dhcp service on the server has shut itself down.

The DHCP/BINL service on this computer running Windows Server 2003 for Small Business Server has encountered another server on this network with IP Address, 192.168.1.254, belonging to the domain
