Hide SSID problems was created by kirton
Hi folks,

I have a 2860 n+ with an AP900

ssid 1 is hidden
ssid 2 is not hidden and acts as my guest internet access.

Now, my mobile phone says no signal on ssid 1. When I uncheck "hide ssid" the signal comes back.
I am running on firmware 8.3
Surely having ssid 1 already listed on my phone it should connect regardless of the hidden status of the ssid.

Kirton :)

Maybe some incompatibility assuming you entered the SSID correctly manually into the device... but why hide it ?

Thanks for the reply.

I hide it so that users of the public ssid can only see the one.

But surely you have a password on the one they shouldn't use. To stop them
accidentally trying and getting confused, you can always call them
House_Guest
House_Private

etc.

That's true but it would be more elegant if House_Guest is all the guest could see in the ssid list.
The router has that functionality I believe.

It sounds like the way the phone works - it wrongly checks that it can 'see' the SSID before attempting a connection..but as I understand it, a client should not do that (otherwise hide SSID would never work). Do you have another device for comparison?
