AP 906 bricked? Can't connect, firmware upgrade utility not working was created by Loz
Hi,
I got a couple of 906 APs off ebay last year, and so far they've been great - really helped get wifi around our old house with thick stone walls. However yesterday we suffered a power cut or three and one of my 906s didn't come back online.
It had just the power LED blinking, no other activity, so I tried the factory reset button which didn't do as I'd hoped, it just sits there with the power LED flashing quickly. I've also tried the firmware upgrade utility but that doesn't seem able to conncect to the 906 - it just times out. The TFTP mode appears to be working, in that I can ping 192.168.1.2
Is there anything else I can try?
Cheers

Hi
Loz
,
I'm guessing you've followed this procedure already? (including the Troubleshooting notes at the bottom of the page?)
Most of the DrayTek equipment will revert to a previous firmware and/or restore the device to factory settings if it reboots three times in a row, which could've happened in your case.
If your 906 has reverted back to default settings it will get the same IP as when it's in TFTP mode, so there's a chance you don't actually have it in TFTP mode, saying that, if it was just a default settings reset then you should be able to login to it at 192.168.1.2...
I would attempt putting it into TFTP mode again and then load up the Firmware utility and make sure the IPs are 100% correct, as in, your IP and the 906's IP. If you input an incorrect IP to the Firmware utility it will still attempt to flash the unit until it times out. You'll know you're onto a winner when you see the 'Sending' progress bar light up green, if not, it can't see the device or the device is not in TFTP mode.

Hi, thanks for your reply. In the time between me writing my OP and it being approved, I fixed the problem 😊 Turns out that Windows had been lying to me about the firewall being turned off! The following day the same thing happened to my other 906 (another series of power cuts), and I was able to fix that one first time. A bit annoying, but a good learning experience.
