Just contacted support.
They know of this problem and advise that it has been fixed in the 350 06c firmware version.
They promised they would send it to me, will confirm once loaded.

Hi Lee,
An update. I was sent a copy of 6f which I duly installed.
Initial results suggested 6f was suffering from the same problem you described, in that it would register, deregister and not register again. And just like you the hand set says its still connected.....
However, in frustration i upped the expire time from the default 60 seconds to the max of 3600. Curiously it now seems to stay connected! Can't explain it, not sure it will stay that way, but it has stayed that way for the last two hours.

I'm only a couple of days in on running my IPPBX2820 and I too noticed that calls were going to voicemail without ringing the handset. I wasn't in front of the handset at the time, so couldn't check if it was online and when I did realise the error (when receiving the voicemail), the phone was registered ok.
I thought it was this SIP expiry time but after playing around with it and now leaving it to "60" it is working ok now and not replicated the problem. I don't know why because nothing has changed, apart from set the figure to higher, then back to lower again.

Hi Matt,
Good observation, never tried putting it back down to 60 seconds after setting higher to see if it worked!
However I know by leaving I higher it works consistently.
For me consistent reliability is absolute king in this market and despite the apparent price/functionality offered at the headline level draytek haven't delivered where it counts hence I now buy 3cx for my pbx and asstra for phones
I'm sure they'll get it right at some point, but they've lost a customer in me.
Iain
Ps: it's not all doom and gloom and I still buy & install their routers
