Best isn't a universal, it depends on what you need.
I use A&A, not the cheapest but very technically competent and easy to get through to highly knowledgeable staff by phone or email if you want to do anything slightly out of the ordinary.
Things I find useful, though many others might not, is that they will give me as many IP addresses as I can justify, at no cost, will host any domains I want and give me full control over their DNS, will act as a secondary for any DNS I am running, provide secondary MX for my mailservers, support IPv6 and similarly techy stuff.
They also get lines enabled fast (we have also used them for several clients) and have been very reliable.
As I say, not the cheapest but you get what you pay for and for me they are well worth the little extra

I will never, i say NEVER use BT again. The attitude they took with me when i was trying to solve a line problem was highly annoying. I would hate to think how paying customers of broadband must feel !. Not only this but i hate monopolies full stop be it BT or Micro****. The more competition the better the service we get. I am with Pipex and dont have a bad word to say of them until now.
I have to applaud Draytek at this point for making the setup of their router so easy. I having no experience at all of networks had my router flying with OS X10.2 in under 15 minutes.
Tav:wink:

BT are not great at customer services but there network is steady.
i have been with BT since the beginning of ADSL in the UK in 2 different locations.
the contacts are crap but if you get past front line support to the engineers who know what they are talking about they are very good.
as for the others we use Pipex at work and there service and relablity as crap.
bottom line it depends on the BT exchange if they made a good job there you get very little problems if tehy did a crap job it dont matter who you are with.
then it just down to cost and the number of people who share the connection with you.

I use Andrews & Arnold based upon the recommendation of a neighbour following 4 months of trying to get ADSL on one of my two lines. BT rejected applications on both lines twice and said the line quality was not good enough to support the minimum upload speed. This followed a 4 hour telephone call during which I didn't speak to the same person twice.
I called A & A mid afternoon on a Monday explained the situation to a young lady who said she would " sort it out", I was contacted on the Wed morning to say the line had passed the test (the one BT had failed twice) and advised that the quality was just about good enough to support a 1000Kb service if I wanted it. I was also advised that ADSL would be available that Friday which it was.
Since then I have had no problems at all with the line and when I have rung A & A with queries I have found them helpful and knowledgable.
When I posted a recommendation on the ADSLguide site an A& A director contacted me to thank me for the recommendation.
I would only ever consider BT if no other options.
I have no connection with A & A other than that of a satisfied customer.

A fellow A&Aer
We've done about 6 A&A installations for clients now, as well as our own. Without exception they go smoothly and efficiently.
