Vigor 2820n and 3G very slow was created by marchawes
I have upgraded the firmware from the Draytek site in Australia to use my 3G modem from three because there was not one available from the UK. All works well and I can connect to the Internet but far far slower than if connected directly to my PC. Has anyone any tips about what i should do to improve the speed? Files get coped across the router fine onto a NAS drive I have at acceptable speeds and so I do not think it is the distance from the router.

Many thanks in advance

No Paul - I have had no reply on this issue - I have now bought a second 3G dongle from Three as they were doing discounts on second dongles. I do not use the router now.

I'm getting the same on my 2820Vn and T-Mobile E160 modem. When the dongle is connected to my laptop - I get a flashing blue connection and get HSDPA speeds - but when the dongle is connected to my 2820 - I get just GPRS speeds.

Anybody any ideas?

(I've tried running diagnostics and copying the modem connection strings - but to no avail).

J

What APN settings, for the 3G dongle, are you using on the router?

Do you have a powered USB2 hub tat you could connect to the 2820. I have read somewhere that that powered hubs can help. (I use one here)

John,

Thanks for the response! I'm using the default dial string, then putting in "general.t-mobile.uk" (without quotes) into the APN field and then clicking the Apply button, then OK.

I'll certainly give the powered USB hub a whirl - sounds a good idea to me.

One thing that I'm not sure about is the username/password settings. It appears that it doesn't matter if it's in there or not. Currently mine are unpopulated.

I'll get back to you with the results of the hub test and thanks again.

Cheers - Jon.
