I've switched over to using Vodafone and to be honest - most of the speed problems (I think) were down to poor T-Mobile reception where the router is actually placed.

I don't get great reception now - but the speed is fine for simple web-browsing and emails.

I'm using these settings:

SIM PIN code <empty>
Modem Initial String APN:pp.internet (Default:AT&FE0V1X1&D2&C1S0=0)
Modem Dial String ATDT*99#
