I've noticed that the upcoming 3.3.2 firmware has the following text next to it: "RC5/Beta - USB NAS Test Only". Am I correct in think that I'll soon be able to buy a nice 1TB USB drive and share it through my router?

If so, that's going to be awesome. Any idea how long away 3.3.2 is?

the beta has ftp and samba but they are basic. don't expect any AD or enterprise features.

2820 = 3.3.2_RC5
2950 = 3.2.4

Well I'm running the 2820n in a home office environment so have no need for any professional level features. Would be nice to just have access to some storage for backup purposes. I can install something like Cobian Backup onto each of my PCs and have a scheduled backup that sends files via FTP to the router's hard drive each day.

That would be nice :)

no need for ftp. use the samba feature. i've got to admit that it is a nice addition and hope it works well with the usb on the draytek. is it a usb1 port? if so, transfer rate are limited compared to usb2.
samba is a tried and tested file sharing method and is used throughout enterprise networks with windows & nix servers.
there are links to a beta firmware on this site where you can try it.

2820 = 3.3.2_RC5
2950 = 3.2.4

Any idea if the upcomming NAS host will have the facility to encrypt the volume so if the convenient USB drive with lots of important data on it happens to be stolen there is no embarasing lost confidential data getting into the wrong hands :?:
