VIGOR 2710N MTU Setting ! was created by technojunkie
Can anybody please advise the Telnet command line for checking and changing the MTU on a 2710N ?
The command line advised on the DrayTek Support page is "Vigor> wan ppp_mss ?" which works for MSS but how do I check the MTU ?
The default MSS value is 1442 by my ISP specifies an MTU value of 1460 !
Thank You

Hi
Here you go:
For some reason, Draytek seem to refer to MTU as MSS in their CLI interface.:?
Try
http://www.speedguide.net/analyzer.php?
to check your MTU & MSS settings.

P.S. Thanks to Lorian who reminded me of these commands recently.
Here you go:
Code:
wan ppp_mss 1460
adsl savecfg
adsl reboot
wan ppp_mss ?

Thank You for the post Rhubard.
That's just what I needed to know
I triedhttp://www.speedguide.net/analyzer.php ? and it recommended that I changed the MTU from 1460 to 1500.
I have therefore done this on both the 2710N router and my PC but, for some reason, the speedguide.net analyzer is still stating that my MTU is 1460. Weird !

This must be wrong. 1500 is too high for ADSL. It is only correct for a cable setup.

Thanks for the post NJH.
You're right ! I've now reconfigured both the router and PC back to 1460 where things seem to be a lot better overall.
However, I tried an MTU test at this site :
http://help.expedient.com/broadband/mtu_ping_test.shtml
using the command prompt and, even at 1460, the result was that "packets need to be fragmented" !
MTU 1460 is recommended by my ISP so something is wrong somewhere !

Hi again.
Have you tried setting your MTU to 1500 and carrying out a test?
If it works at 1500 leave it there.
The MTU for a connection between 2 point is set at the lowest MTU encountered on the route. If you set yours to 1500 and your ISP has equipment set to 1460 the tests will still show 1460.
