Question for Robgreenwood

What do you mean by "hardwired to the router" Mine worked fine until a reboot and now it just cycle reboots without allowing enough time to connect. I can ping it for about a minute but then it dies again. Can't make an http connection to it

Hi Sprozzy, just link to the router using a cat 5 cable not wirelessly.

Thanks again to robgreenwood - his solution is bang on. I had worked it out for myself and got nowhere because I was trying to address the router using http://192.168.1.1 and then hoping to use the inbuilt firmware upgrade facility. That process simply doesn't work because you can't connect using http and the unit reboots anyways. I emailed draytel.com in taiwan and gor the following reply which works - my router is now back - thank you everybody
Please refer to the following steps to upgrade your Vigor2820vn with firmware .rst file, then see if the situation will improve.
1)Switch off the router.
2)Press the reset button on the rear of the router and hold it.
3)Switch on the router, then release the button. The router now is in TFTP mode (the most left two LED on the router will blink simultaneously ).
4)Manually set your PC's IP to "192.168.1.*"(for example,192.168.1.10) in the TCP/IP property.
5)Run the "Router Tools->Firmware Upgrade Utility" and type "192.168.1.1" in "Router IP".
6)Select the .rst file in "Firmware file" and press "Send".
7)Upgrade will be finished when the LEDs blink normally again.

You may download the Router Tool at the following link.
http://www.draytek.com/user/SupportDLUtility.php
After you install it,you may see the Firmware Upgrade Utility.

Note:Upgrade the .rst file will restore the "factory default" settings of the router, wiping all existing settings, please reconfigure the router manually.

robgreenwood wrote: I flashed the new 3.3.4 firmware last week and the router did exactly the same thing. After worrying that I'd bricked it I found a solution.

Download the Draytek router tools and the old firmware 3.3.3.
Hardwire a connection to the router
Turn off the router, hold the factory reset and restart it tries to recover. During this time you'll see you get limited connectivity, its at this point you use the router tools to upload the old firmware.

After a few mins everything back and running!

Thanks so much! Was really worried I had bricked it after doing a 3.3.3 to 3.3.4 "upgrade".

I'm going to stear clear of 3.3.4 for now, given the other issues people have reported who've succesfully managed to get it to install.

Can I ask that everyone suffering from the 3.3.3 to 3.3.4 upgrade reboot problem and also the failure caused by restoring a 3.3.3 config to a fresh 3.3.4 installation log a support call with Draytek.

Hopefully this will give Draytek support a multitude of config files to examine for any common issue.

I have an open call, although at the moment Draytek cannot reproduce the issue in their test environment.

Many thanks
