Having text files would require development of a text file parser, and then the additional tech support when people don't get the syntax right etc. etc. It's economic on a £600 router, but not on a £150 one I'd guess, particularly as most people won't need it, but everyone would end up paying for it.

Fail. Try comparing to a £50 embedded linux router then. In case you've forgotten, the entire web interface is text and it has to parse all the submits back from that.

What isn't acceptable is having no way of even producing a dump of the entire configuration in text form; at least that would be a start.

I agree, it would be nice to have the ability to view at mimimum, and possibly also edit a configuration file.

At least that way you could read the settings and enter them manually if required.

Nothing worse than a multitude of screen shot configurations and then realising you are missing something vital.

Maybe such a tool already exists for internal support use only ?
