Hi,

I have a Vigor 120, which originally had 3.2.4 firmware. This was working fine and sync'd at a very good 19,000,000 on ADSL2+ line. But it was flaky when navigating around the menus and froze often (it needed a hard reset every time to fix).

I noticed 3.2.4.4 was available from the Draytek UK site so updated to this (using the inbuilt firmware upgrade page). The upgrade was successful but the sync speed went down immediately to around 2,000,000. The SNR was also much higher. I reset a few times but things didn't improve.

I thought I would downgrade back but couldn't fine 3.2.4 anywhere. Eventually I found 3.2.4.1 so downgraded to this, which again downgraded successfully (again using the inbuilt page). However, this was the worst firmware. I could watch the unit negotiate the ADSL then freeze at the last step. It was totally unresponsive and need a hard reset to bring back.

I've since attempted to get back to 3.2.4.4, but I can't upgrade or downgrade at all. The inbuilt firmware upgrade page starts the process (shows a progress bar) then after about 3 seconds IE refreshes to 'Page cannot be displayed'. I ping the unit throughout this process and it doesn't go down or restart. After a while I realise it's not working and manually refresh IE and see it's still on 3.2.4.1

I have tried to upload the firmware via TFTP on Windows, but this times out. I tried the upgrade utility but this also times out.

I can't now downgrade or upgrade this unit and it's completely useless now. A brick.

Can anyone offer any advice?

Thanks.

Put it into TFTP mode then send the firmware to 192.168.1.1 like you would for a normal router, that should receive the firmware and allow it to be reflashed.

Also check the modem code you're using, it should say on the box what modem code it was originally using, such as 321311 etc, you might need to match that using the firwmare files from www.draytek.com but make sure to use the right firmware for the unit as there's two versions, if you've got a black LAN port then it's the v1.

Firmware versions on the Draytek ftp-server (ftp.draytek.com)

V120:
drwxr-xr-x 2 525 0 4096 Mar 12 2009 V3.2.2
drwxr-xr-x 2 525 0 4096 Jun 29 2009 V3.2.2.1
drwxr-xr-x 2 525 0 4096 Nov 23 2010 V3.2.4.1
drwxr-xr-x 2 525 0 4096 Jun 15 2010 V3.2.4.3
drwxr-xr-x 2 525 516 4096 Nov 23 2010 V3.2.4.4

V120 V2:
drwxr-xr-x 2 525 0 4096 Dec 17 2009 V3.2.4
drwxr-xr-x 4 525 0 4096 Jun 15 2010 V3.2.4.3
drwxr-xr-x 2 525 516 4096 Mar 04 07:02 V3.2.4.4
drwxr-xr-x 5 525 516 4096 May 26 01:28 V3.2.6

I guess you have a V2 if you said, this was the original version on the modem. (V120 V1 there is no 3.2.4)

Thanks for the reply. However I am still getting the time out message. I am using a Windows 7 laptop to connect directly to the Vigor 120. I logon to the web interface of the 120, click on System Maintenance > Firmware Upgrade > Then click OK to start then TFTP server.

Then I got to a command prompt and type...

tftp -t 192.168.2.1 put c:\v120_a_324.rst

...after about 30 seconds I get "Timeout Occured. Connect Request Failed." I refresh the web interface and check the 'Online Status' and I see that the modem has rebooted as the 'system uptime' reports just a few seconds.

It is a V1 model. The original packaging doesn't have any modem code details. There are two stickers on the box, but neither seems to include anything which relates to modem code, just serial number, original firmware (3.2.4), manufacture date etc.

I presume it's a V1 anyway.

It's definitely a v1 :)

Like I said, you need to send the firmware to 192.168.1.1 which is what the modem is on when it's in TFTP mode rather than the 192.168.2.1 default.
