Yes, this looks like a V1

If the modem behaves like other draytek products, the IP Address will be the same as in normal mode when you activate the tftp server in the Web-UI.
Only when you hold the reset-button and then while holding it power on the device, wait a little, it will switch the IP to the default address.

Anyway, you should be able to check that out by:
configure your PC to a static IP like 192.168.1.100, with a subnet mask of 255.255.0.0
Disconnect all other devices from the network.
Dont connect the modem directly to the network card of your PC without a switch, because the os might disable your network card if the modem is powered off.
set the modem to tftp mode and then try ping to either 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.2.1
if you get an answer, you have the correct IP of the modem.
Again, this only works if the 120 does behave like other draytek products.

Thanks both for your comments and suggestions.

I tried them all but still no luck.

First, I ran a continuous ping to both 192.168.2.1 and 192.168.1.1. Only 192.168.2.1 responded, until I enabled TFTP, when both addresses responded. With these still running I opened another command prompt and TFTP'd the firmware across to 192.168.1.1.

However, after about 30-40 seconds I got the same timeout message as before "Timeout Occurred. Connect Request Failed." Both pings then failed to respond. I waited about 10 minutes thinking maybe the modem was upgrading itself. After waiting, I rebooted the modem and it was still on 3.2.4.1!

Thinking it might be dodgy firmware, I went to ftp.draytek.com and downloaded a fresh 3.2.4.4 version. However, looking at ftp://draytek.com/Vigor120/Firmware/V3.2.4.4/ I couldn't find one which matches the UK code of 321311.

So I picked one at random (v120_3244_332201) and tried to TFTP this to the modem, but I'm still got the timeout. The then tried with the general firmware but also got the timeout. I know the modem is rebooting after receiving the firmware, because both pings drop out briefly and only 192.168.2.1 comes back with responses. The TFTP server has been reset.

I tried all this using a small 8-port netgear hub (and also tried going direct into the modem) , so I know it's not my NIC power-saving off.

Any other tips?

I also tried to stick a pin into the 'reset' hole and boot up the modem but this didn't reset anything.

Are you sure it's not something like Windows firewall blocking the connection? That breaks TFTP updates quite often

Bingo!! It's worked.

After disabling the Windows firewall it worked first time. Rather than the timeout message I get "Transfer Successful: 1554780 bytes in 3 seconds (s)" I watched the pings drop out then come back and after checking the interface again it now reports the firmware is on 3.2.4.

Excellent. Only question now is I think I'm probably better off using the latest firmware for the V1, which seems to be 3.2.4.4, but which modem code should I use for UK?

Below are all the model variations that appear in ftp.draytek.com under the Vigor 120v1.

V120V3.2.4.4A310801.zip
V120V3.2.4.4A310811.zip
V120V3.2.4.4A3211201.zip
V120V3.2.4.4A332201.zip
V120V3.2.4.4A3431301.zip
V120V3.2.4.4A343601.zip
V120V3.2.4.4A343701.zip
V120V3.2.4.4A344001.zip
V120V3.2.4.4A344101.zip
V120V3.2.4.4A_STD.zip

Thanks again.
