I just need a spot of clarification.
My settings:
Default TX Limit: 200 Kbps Default RX Limit: 800 Kbps
My status :
Upstream 1037083 Downstrream 4077964

Used at home there are 4 Family users

I'd appreciate a quick guide to recommended TX RX settings. e.g. Why should I not set the TX tp 100000 and the RX to 400000 ?

What are you trying to achieve from the bandwidth management?

You could just turn on the allow automatic adjustment, the router will then help ensure bandwidth usage is fair.

I want to find out if I set it to automatic, will the MAX bandwidth available for each user be the Defaults of TX Limit: 200 Kbps and RX Limit: 800 Kbps

Why are the defaults set lower than my ADSL supply of Upstream 1037083 Downstrream 4077964?
Should I change the defaults to a Default TX Limit: 1030000 and RX Limit of : 4070000 so that each user can get the maximum ADSL speed if they are the only user?

1. From what I've seen if you set automatic and two users are attempting to max out the download, they'll be given around half each. The actual set limit of 800Kbps goes out of the window if there is more bandwidth available on your connection.

2. It appears those default values are on all the Draytek routers and have bene for years - Looks like they just decided that is a sensible default. Some connections available now make it quite a silly default, you can easily change it though.

I think it won't make too much difference with the automatic setting on. If you turn it on, go to diagnosis and bandwidth monitor. Then push some traffic across the users, you'll see on that page how the router shares out the bandwidth.

Final questions:
If I set up a bandwidth restriction on ONE ip address, I am assuming that the others are unaffected?
i.e. 192.168.1.40 tx 100 Rx 400 SHARED = YES

... I am not clear about when to tick the Shared flag. How it will affectthe user and the other users.

Yes, the others will use the default if their IP is not set.

I believe the idea of the shared is so you can set it like, 192.168.1.40 to 192.168.1.50 share 200 up 1000 down. So, this range could be a DHCP pool for guest WiFi for example. That why they all get a limit shared between them while others on the network can have different restrictions.
