I updated the firmware in my 2820vn, and it appears to have failed. The router has no flashing lights, and a combination of fixed lights that doesn't include any of the wired ports.
It doesn't respond to any pings or enquiries, or to a factory reset.

Is this now scrap? Or is there a way to get it back?

I'm connected with a cheapo router I keep in stock in case of a customer outage- it's OK but I'm missing half my functionality!

Hi,

Have you tried this process :

- setup your PC to fixed IP (ex: 192.168.1.10)
- force Vigor2820Vn to TFTP mode ( http://www.draytek.co.uk/support/kb_vigor_reflash.html#reflash ) - section : Abnormal Firmware Conditions)
- send .rst file (to Router IP : 192.168.1.1)

hope this helps,

regards,

rj

Nah- it's not responding at all. When I plug in a CAT5, there's no response, and the PC doesn't see 192.168.1.1 on the network. When I power-cycle the router, I get 8 of the 9 lights in the square lit:

X X

That's:

Act Wlan Line
USB DSL Phone1
CSM WAN2 Phone2

Only the DSL light is not lit.

Some of these are patent lies: there's nothing in the line-in, WAN2, USB or either of the phone connections.

I think it's completely banjaxed.

The irritating thing is, I'll probably have to buy another Draytek router, as it seems to be the only brand that does what I want at anything like sensible prices (multi-NAT, multi-SSID). Because otherwise, I'd not touch them again with a bargepole.

Hi,

It's not usual to "brick" like that when attemping to upgrade firmware.

Even if that happens, Vigor Router should ALWAYS be able to enter in Upgrade Mode (following EXACTLY the previous process) , in order to force a firmware upgrade.

I suggest to send it to RMA.

rj

RMA?

You mean, back where I got it? It's a couple of years old, I don't expect I'd get anywhere sending it back.
