In Online Status, there's no values for the 3G modem, and it says: Message [ PPP Shutdown ]

Clicking Dial PPP has no effect

My syslog shows this for the modem:

Code:
Jan 7 14:54:04 my.router Vigor: [3G]Modem stop Jan 7 14:54:04 my.router Vigor: [3G]Send init command AT&FE0V1X1&D2&C1S0=0^M Jan 7 14:54:04 my.router Vigor: [3G]Modem status:A1 20 00 00 00 00 02 00 02 00 Jan 7 14:54:04 my.router Vigor: [3G]Modem response: ^M OK^M Jan 7 14:54:05 my.router Vigor: [3G]Send query command AT+CPIN? I've also tried changing the APN to internet which gives an init string of "APN:internet"

That gives the following response in the syslog:

Code:
Jan 7 15:18:33 my.router Vigor: [3G]Send init command AT&FE0V1X1&D2&C1S0=0^M Jan 7 15:18:33 my.router Vigor: [3G]Modem response: ^M OK^M Jan 7 15:18:33 my.router Vigor: [3G]Modem status:A1 20 00 00 00 00 02 00 02 00 Jan 7 15:18:33 my.router Vigor: [3G]Modem initialize [AT+CGDCONT=,,"internet"^M ] Jan 7 15:18:33 my.router Vigor: [3G]Modem response: ^M OK^M Jan 7 15:18:33 my.router Vigor: [3G]Modem dial [ATDT*99***16# ^M ] Jan 7 15:18:33 my.router Vigor: [3G]Modem status:A1 20 00 00 00 00 02 00 02 00 Jan 7 15:18:33 my.router Vigor: [3G]Modem response: ^M ERROR^M Jan 7 15:18:33 my.router Vigor: [3G]Modem status:A1 20 00 00 00 00 02 00 02 00

Does anyone have any suggestions to help get this modem connected?

You are entering the word "internet" in the wrong place.

You enter "internet" (without the quotes and WITHOUT "APN:" at the front) in the APN name box and then you click the APPLY button. This will transfer the name "internet" into the box above and the Modem Initial String should look like this:

Modem Initial String [APN:internet] (the [] signifying what is inside the box)

This should wipe out the AT&FE0V1X1&D2&C1S0=0 which should not be there for the E220

The rest of the setting you should use are similar to what you had...

Modem Dial String: ATDT*99***16#
PPP Username: web
PPP Password: web

(don't use blanks)

Try this. I had a contract vodafone E220 working in 5 mins like this...

Still not working :/

I seem to have some progress, as the online status now shows a link speed of 3600000. Everything else for the modem is 0 except ip address which is ---

Here's the syslog output.

Code:

Did you try unplugging the modem, waiting till the router had "de-installed" it (keep looking at the "Online Status" page in another window to make sure the 3G Modem Icon & Section disappears as it refreshes) and then just plug it back in again? How are you initiating the connection? (I've found that dropping the main PPPoA connect by pulling the adsl lead is better/more reliable than hitting the DialPPP button)

Colin

PS Meant to add, once you have setup/filled in the 3G Modem Backup section in once, it won't need doing again. Oh, and I am also using a 2800VG...

[3G]Modem dial [ATDT*99***16#^M ]

[3G]Modem response: ^M ERROR^M

You can try to change the dial string, until the ERROR message becomes OK

Any chance you could tell me how you got this working? I just keep getting PPP Shutdown and cannot get any further. Have tried every config listed here and many others but no joy. :(

I just worked! I setup the E172/Vodafone usb stick on my pc first , once that was working I plugged it into the router and followed this guide:
